EVENT REVIEW:
THE MIGS & SMART BROWN HANDBAG AT SPACELAND (9/19/99)

The
MiGs: The band served up a potpourri banquet
encompassing styles of '70s funk, '60s English pop, '80s punk, Led
Zeppelin ("Immigrant Song"), country, psychedellic prog-rock--all
indelibly stamped with the MiGs' particular brand of twisted and zany
surf-rock sensibilities.

Smart Brown Handbag: The craft of songwriting has seldom had
such an apt vehicle for
expression as in Smart Brown Handbag's recent performance at Spaceland.
There is a lot of space and simplicity in the arrangements which
allows every nuance and gesture to gleam, and lets songwriter
Steinhart's vocals shine through.
