Kaleidospace,
LLC, a leading web hosting service and distributor of
independent music, film and art since January 1994, announced today that
it has selected its Indiespace property to be its new site name and primary brand.
"The Indiespace name has more immediate impact and really identifies our goals
and market," said Kaleidospace Founder Jeannie Novak.
The main reason for the name change is to immediately identify Kspace's
web site and
its services with its market -- independent artists of all types,
and consumers/industry professionals interested in independent
artists and their works. "With 'Kspace', it wasn't always clear what
we were about" said Pete Markiewicz, co-founder of Kspace. "Musicians and
artists would hear our name in the media and not realize that our site and services were
uniquely valuable to them. By promoting Indiespace as our primary site, visitors will know
something about us the first time they read about us or visit the website."
Kspace's decision to change its web branding comes at a time when an increasing number
of independent musicians, visual artists, authors and filmmakers are discovering the true
potential of the Internet for promotion and sales. Online sales by independents have been
rising steadily since the watershed season of Christmas 1998. The top-grossing independent
film, The Blair Witch Project, used the Internet to generate the
"buzz" making it the surprise hit of the summer -- at a fraction the cost of
mass media promotion. Independents are also taking a second look at their current Internet
efforts. The "free home page" sites provided by other web
hosting services have proven
less useful than expected, since they do not support secure online ordering and
"dotcom" Internet names.
By re-defining itself as
Indiespace.com, Kspace Independent Artists will increase the
focus on its core business -- providing a "one-stop" solution for independent
musicians, artists, filmmakers, writers and performers. Kspace will aggressively
market its complete line of indie services, ranging from secure online
e-commerce, product consignment and streaming audio/video to trademark and copyright
registration. A key component of the service package is complete "dotcom" web
hosting via Indiespace Starpoints. This advanced services allows artists to register
their own Internet domain name and host their website with an artist-friendly
service.
In addition to individual artists,
Kspace/Indiespace will be offering an enhanced set
of services for smaller indie websites. Many of these sites have dozen or even hundreds of
independent artists, but do not provide secure online ordering or "dotcom" web
hosting. By working with Kspace through its Starpoints program they will be able to offer
these services to their artists while preserving their autonomy.
Kspace also plans to develop strategic partner relationships with larger web portals.
These sites can benefit from Kspace's unmatched experience with the independent market.
Indiespace will be marketed as a solution for majors who want to develop an
"independent" strategy. As the new millennium approaches, Kspace's
Indiespace.com brand is posed to become the place for independents to be on the Internet!
