LOS ANGELES/SANTA MONICA, CA -
Indiespace.com, the flagship website of Kaleidospace LLC (a leading web hosting service and
distributor of independent music since January 1994), is
sponsoring Indie Nation -- the upcoming conference devoted to
independent music.
The conference -- held at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal
City on Saturday, November 13th, from 9am to 5pm --
is hosted by Los Angeles Women in Music (LAWIM), a non-profit
corporation dedicated to fostering and promoting equal career
opportunities for women and men in the music industry.
At the conference, Kaleidospace CEO Jeannie Novak and CIO Pete
Markiewicz will be conducting a workshop called “Music and the
Web.” The workshop will concentrate on how the web is
reinventing the promotion, performance and distribution of
independent music.
“Rather than just discussing how the web has made independent
music more available,” said Novak, “we want to focus on how
artists and independent labels are recognizing the Internet’s
true potential for promotion and sales.” Independent label
Wind-Up Entertainment, for example, recently took Creed’s
“Human Clay” to the No. 1 spot using inexpensive Internet
promotion -- easily surpassing Garth Brooks latest album, which
cost much more to market through traditional means. “The
workshop will show artists some real, useable strategies for
promoting, marketing and distributing their own music on the
web,” said Markiewicz.
Part of Indiespace.com’s sponsorship includes a redesign of the
LAWIM site, which has been hosted by Kaleidospace since
September 1998. The redesigned site offers information on LAWIM
services and upcoming events, as well as the ability to purchase
LAWIM’s first compilation CD online. “Now that the site is
getting so much attention nationwide,
this redesign is imperative to help attract more corporate
sponsors, new members and media attention,” said Debbie Alfaro,
Webmistress of the LAWIM web site.
“We cannot thank Kaleidospace enough.”
