THOMAS DOLBY REACHES THE INTERNET THROUGH KALEIDOSPACE

LOS ANGELES, CA - Thomas Dolby, whose career has explored the boundaries of music and technology, will be featured in the Kaleidospace Artist-in-Residence (A-i-R) program. His tenure as A-i-R will provide Internet users with a chance to see the exciting new directions his music is taking. Each week, Dolby will showcase audio excerpts from his soundtrack for the Miramar video, The Gate to the Mind's Eye. These selections will be complemented by video clips from this outstanding new work, third in the well-known computer animation series, The Mind's Eye, which combines the world's best computer animation with a soundtrack written especially for the video by Dolby. Audio and video clips from Dolby's album, Astronauts and Heretics, will also be showcased on Kaleidospace. Both albums are available on Giant Records.

Along with an increasing number of musicians, artists, filmmakers, writers and other creative people, Thomas sees the Internet as a means for artists to directly reach their audience and avoid the "lowest common denominator" constraints imposed by traditional mass media. His company, Headspace, is pushing the envelope of interactive media with the development of AVRe (Audio Virtual Reality engine).

Thomas Dolby's Internet site may be accessed through the world wide web at http://kspace.com using Mosaic, Netscape or other browsing programs. For those who don't have web access, an email "listserv" with online discussion of Dolby's work is being created. To subscribe to the list, send an email message to lists with the following line in the body of the message (no subject): subscribe dolby [your email address]. Some of the same material will also be available at the Kaleidospace anonymous ftp site at ftp.kspace.com and the gopher site at gopher.kspace.com.

The A-i-R program is designed to provide cross-promotion between high-profile and independent artists. Kaleidospace promotes, distributes and sells works by independent artists, musicians, writers, performers, animators, filmmakers, CD-ROM authors and software developers.
