EXTENSION COURSE "CAREERS IN GAMING" BY JEANNIE NOVAK STARTS
SEPT 23 (9/23/2003)
Jeannie Novak's UCLA Extension course,
"Careers in Gaming," starts tomorrow evening (Wed, Sept 23) from
7pm to 10pm. This course is the first in a series of courses Jeannie will
be teaching at UCLA. Others include project management, story development,
mobile game development, and online game development.
This course provides an overview of careers available in the game
development industry -- including game designer, tester, artist, producer,
programmer, writer, composer, sound designer and marketing executive.
Lectures, discussion and group projects enable participants to understand
the current state of the game development industry, what it takes to
create a game from start to finish, a brief history of the computer game
development industry, and future industry trends.
Additional topics include transitioning into the industry from other
careers, networking, demo and resume preparation, interviewing, and
principles of freelancing and entrepreneurship.

* Steve Lopez (CEO, Ascension Entertainment)
* Ivo Gerscovich (Director of Marketing, Vivendi Universal Games)
* Mark Soderwall (Art Director, Atari/Infogrames)
* Gavin Doughtie (animation technology, Dreamworks)
* David Javelosa & Rich Ragsdale (game composers)
Pete Markiewicz will also be on hand one evening to discuss how to market
games to the teen Millennial Generation.
This is an elective course in the Certificate Program in Film, Television,
and Digital Entertainment Media.
