Santa Monica, CA - Indiespace.com, the flagship website of
Kaleidospace LLC (a leading web hosting service and distributor
of independent arts and entertainment since January 1994), is
sponsoring Califunka, a benefit concert for the Venice Dream
Team.
All proceeds from the concert will help support the Venice Dream
Team’s unique program that brings Los Angeles children
together with hands-on photojournalism education. The concert
features an Indiespace.com band, The MiGs, whose music is a
high-energy mix of country, psychedelia, disco and surf.
They are joined by the punk-influenced Sensa Motiva and
the alternative rock band, The Shoecrackers of Bethlehem (aka
the SOBs).
As part of its sponsorship, Indiespace.com hosted the
event’s website, which posts user-friendly information on the
venue, the performers and the program. The Califunka event
planners have relied primarily on the Internet to promote the
concert – an emerging tool in the music industry.
Lola Stewart, Califunka event staff member and website
coordinator, notes, “In this day and age, a website or any
kind of online concert support is considered one of the more
important forms of event promotion.”
“Califunka is not only for a great cause, but it’s a
live, eclectic show, and it has the support of
Indiespace.com’s entire virtual community,” said Bernard Yin
of the MiGs. As members of the Indiespace.com website, The MiGs
have been able to target their work to consumers specifically
interested in independent music -- without competition from
major label acts. Indiespace.com
offers all artists web hosting and the ability to post
descriptions, musician profiles, concert dates, MP3 downloads,
and secure online ordering for CDs.
Califunka takes place on Monday, November 29, 1999 at Rusty’s
Surf Ranch on the Santa Monica Pier. Doors open at 7:00pm. Presale
tickets are available at Benway Records at 1600 Pacific Avenue,
Venice, CA for $3.00. Tickets
are $5.00 at the door.
