Songwriters Musepaper Goes Online!
by Simon Higgs
The Songwriter's Musepaper is going on the Information Superhighway. This means that
you will be able to pick up a copy of the Musepaper on your home computer via modem. Back
issues, including your favorite interviews and other useful music information, will be
made available, too. You will be able to retrieve it from the Newsstand area of
Kaleidospace. (See the article on page 12 in this issue.) You can use any existing on-line
service that has an Internet Gateway (CompuServe, America Online etc.) to get your copy.
The Musepaper will be available via ftp, gopher, list-serv and the World Wide Web.
You can use almost any online service's
Internet gateway (CompuServe, AOL, Delphi, PAN, etc.) to connect to Kaleidospace and
retrieve Musepaper as text or graphic (hey, even video!) files.
The 'list-serv' is where you can subscribe to the magazine online and have the text
from the latest issue delivered to your e-mail address automatically each month. This way
you don't have to wait for the mailman to deliver it to your doorstep. Subscription
usually arrives at your e-mail address within an hour of being sent out.
By using the Internet's World Wide Web, we plan to make the Musepaper a completely
interactive multimedia magazine where you will be able to hear samples of songs and see
short video clips of interviews, concert footage and other rare glimpses inside the world
of songwriting.
You will probably run into a lot of "under construction" signs while cruising
the Information Superhighway. This is because, like all other highways, it has to be built
before anyone can travel on it. The Songwriter's Musepaper Online is under construction
too, so not every issue, or piece of information that we want to make available will be
immediately available.
Advertisers please note: We currently have a fixed print circulation (our existing
print run will remain unchanged), but once we are on the Internet, we will be able to
publish an unlimited amount of extra copies electronically (we recycle electrons!). There
are about 30 million people around the world currently using the Internet. Every one of
them will be able to read the Musepaper if they choose.
